Bird flu (avian influenza H5N1) 3 July2026

We are monitoring the current bird flu situation and following the latest advice from Australian authorities.

Biosecurity measures are in place to help protect the wildlife in our care, as well as our staff, volunteers, and visitors.

If you find five or more dead birds

  • Do not touch them.
  • Keep children and pets away.
  • Report them to the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline on 1800 675 888.

If you find a sick, injured, or orphaned native animal

Call ACT Wildlife 0432 300 033 Our volunteers will advise you on what to do next.

If the bird is not part of a high-risk species group, we can provide rescue advice and arrange rescue where appropriate.

Only handle sick or dead birds if you have been told it is safe to do so.
